by Nida Ansari Hi everyone! My name is Nida and I’m the Marketing Coordinator on the Psychology Society. As well, I’m a Psychology Co-op student! What that means is that during three of my terms, I am working a full-time job, and applying what I’ve learned in my Psychology courses into the real, professional world. I’m excited to be able to share my experiences and hopefully give you more insight into the co-op world. This semester, I am working with a non-profit organization that aims to provide a range of mental health services to the youth of Wellington and Guelph. My job specifically involves researching and developing a training program for youth.
You may find that each first co-op term is different for everyone, but many of the skills developed are the same! In my first month already, I’ve been practicing a lot of analytical and research-related skills by looking at other successful training programs and summarizing their best practices, in order to translate that into my own development process. I’ve also been practicing my oral and written communication skills during team meetings and presenting my research to my colleagues. It’s been a lot of important work and I’m glad to be able to do this work collaborating with other people, even if in a remote way! In these next few months, I hope to provide a unique perspective of being a Co-op student and share my tips and tricks along the way. If you want to know anything specific about being a Co-op student or my job this semester, send us a message via Instagram @psysoc and I’d be happy to respond and then share in a blogpost! Other than that, good luck to my co-op student friends on their work terms and good luck to everyone else as well this semester :) - Nida Nida is a second-year Psychology Co-op student at the University of Guelph, and is the Marketing Coordinator on the Psychology Society.
