by Ally Schuller Hi everyone! So, it is that point in the semester when every professor or instructor assigns a million assignments to complete. But don’t worry, I have some suggestions on how to stay sane during this stressful time! Before I start, just an important reminder: you are resilient, and you got this! I have received some questions to talk about today that I will go into detail. QUESTION 1: HOW DO I STAY MOTIVATED IN THE PANDEMIC? So, before thinking of answering these questions myself, I went to an old reliable source to gather people’s opinion - the old reliable, Instagram - and posted on my stories how you and others manage to stay sane, and motivated in this pandemic. Some ideas included some very unique ways such as: creating monthly vision boards to motivate yourself, blocking time in your calendar for each activity to stay organized, taking time for yourself and spending time with family, and just reminding yourself that you are trying your very best everyday, which is the most you can do. I have recently started loving making mood and vision boards, and currently make them for each season. I have included my own personal board that brings me all the wonderful spring vibes. Personally, I think there are many ways to stay motivated as there are constantly many things to do (sometimes all at once) and it can be frustrating and stressful. For me, to stay motivated I try to be very organized. This means I have various calendars: per semester, per month and per week, which really shows what I need to complete that week. On the other side, since there are always things to do, it is vitally important to remember to take care of yourself, which means spending time on what brings you joy and happiness. For me, this includes doing dance workouts, playing Animal Crossing, reading books for fun and spending time with family and friends with appropriate COVID-19 measures. This is different for everyone, but I recommend to try something new everyday and see what you really enjoy. It might include having a little dance party in your room, discovering new music on Spotify, or facetiming a friend that you haven’t seen in a while. I personally recommend the new Justin Bieber album “Justice” and Tate McRae’s new EP “Too Young to be Sad”. It is so important to remember that you can only do your best when you are taking care of yourself. So don’t pull all nighters every night even though you have a hard exam to study for. But do try to spend your time more efficiently and block out any distractions for a bit when studying. It is easy to forget to take a break, but it is so beneficial when keeping yourself motivated and on track. QUESTION 2: WHAT ARE YOUR TOP STUDY OR ORGANIZATION TIPS TO SUCCEED? Again, I asked my followers on Instagram what their top study tips were and they responded by saying start studying early and being organized. I already talked a bit about my own organization tips, but I also want to mention that being a student in a totally online format can be very hard as you might forget when assignments are due. I recommend downloading the app “Pulse” to have Courselink right at the touch of your fingers, and the app “MyHomework” in which you can add your assignments and quizzes and you can set reminders for when to complete them! Utilizing these apps have really helped me this year especially! I’d also definitely recommend looking up some study tips on Pinterest and Google as they have a lot of great resources. Finding study tips that work for you requires some time and patience to find the right fit and might vary for different courses.
Thank you for reading this post and I hope you found some topics useful and can incorporate it into your own study practices! I would love to hear your own favourite study tips, message me on Instagram @_allyschuller. Have a question? Want to write your own blog post?
